What Happened to Merit Based Hiring?

“Anyone who thinks DEI (racism) should play any role in hiring, that person needs to be removed from the process,” - Wall Street Silver

Only minorities need apply
Only minorities need apply

It used to be we hired the best and brightest for jobs and positions of leadership and administration. In some industries that mantra has gone bye-bye. One exception is sports. There is no point in fielding a team of also-rans or in more succinct language, losers. What fan wants to cheer for a bunch of under-achievers?

Unmuzzeled News has a short piece on The Rise of Corporate Woke Policy according to

Harmeet K. Dillon
Harmeet K. Dillon

Trump adviser, Harmeet K. Dhillon. It is not new news to know that investment firms like Vanguard, Black Rock, and State Street have coerced businesses to implement "Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) policies." 1

These policies have crept into our businesses, corporations, government, schools, the medical field, and even the military. The far left has been ecstatic about their success in populating wokeness almost everywhere.

The article goes on to inform us about Intuit the "multinational mega-corporation that specializes in financial software. They own household name brands like TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp.  " 2 I have used QuickBooks in the past and I use Credit Karma to check my credit scores. Dillon tells us that Intuit has a record of woke hiring that is the envy of the left.

It may be a great idea to move minorities into jobs they had no chance of acquiring in the past, but at what cost? We get people in positions of leadership and decision-making that affect many more than just their customers, students, or constituents. Some prime examples of woke hires are:

  • Vice President Kamala Harris

  • Karine Jean-Pierre - Presidential spokesperson for President Joe Biden, Nickname "Binder"

  • Dylan Mulvaney -Budweiser

  • Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson - What is a woman?

  • Alexandria Ocasio Cortez - Representative New York's 14th District. - Talks a lot but says nothing that makes sense.

  • The cashier who can not make change at the register if the power goes out.

  • Attorneys who do not need to pass the bar exam

  • Noncitizen illegals are allowed to vote.

  • A doctor who has a limited license ready to operate on you.

  • A pilot who has not mastered the skills required to fly the plane.

Are they qualified?
Are they qualified?

Dhillon points out that this type of selective hiring is illegal. You might even call this racist. These companies are hiring people of color, ethnic groups, and political activists that fit a narrative over those who are more qualified for the position. If the new hire is white, they are at a disadvantage. Is this racism in reverse? Eric Holder, Bill Clinton's Attorney General said, There can not be racism against blacks." I disagree with this view. If the person does not come up with the qualifications for the job, he or she fails and we move on to the next applicant. The person that does pass the tests is the one to hire. In this way, hard work, perseverance, and excellence will always force society to be the best it can be. Sadly, many organizations are lowering the standards so less qualified applicants can qualify for the jobs. We all lose.
