The Colorado Supreme Court has pulled the trigger on calling Donald Trump an insurrectionist. The Court felt justified to disqualify the former President from seeking the presidency on the 2024 ballot in Colorado. This set off mumblings in other Blue States to try the same tactic based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.
Four out of seven Justices on the Colorado Supreme Court have ruled that President Trump participated in an insurrection on January 6 and therefore under the 14th Amendment, President Trump is disqualified from holding public office.
The Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows of Maine has tried the same approach and has kicked President Trump off the ballot in Maine.
The US Supreme Court sees the danger in this action by Democrat-run states and as much as the Court would like to stay out of this situation, the Court must act to keep the craziness from destroying the election process. Just for the silliness of it, let's assume the Democrats disqualify Donald Trump from the ballots in 15 states. In retaliation, the Republicans toss out the Democrat candidate, Joe Biden from the ballots in all the red states. You can see the chaos that ensues. Trump is off the ballot in the blue states and Biden is off the ballot in the red states.
This political jockeying results in a boondoggle that will disrupt the election process and cause the electorate to lose confidence in the public's ability to have a free and fair election. We should also consider how the US would become the laughing stock of the world. Who are we to claim we have free and fair elections when we throw out the two most popular candidates from the ballots?
The Colorado GOP filed a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking a review of the Colorado Supreme Court decision that allowed the state to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the ballot based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. 1
"The filing asserts that unless the state Supreme Court’s decision is overturned, “any voter will have the power to sue to disqualify any political candidate, in Colorado or in any other jurisdiction that follows its lead.” 2
The Colorado Supreme Court stayed its ruling until January 4, 2024 - the day before the ballots are due to be printed - or until an appeal is made to the Supreme Court. 3
Lawyers for President Trump affirmed that the former President has not been convicted of insurrection nor has any other person who attended his January 6th speech been tried or convicted of insurrection. The Democrats regurgitate that "No one is above the law." This applies to Republicans and Donald Trump. In their double standard of the law, Democrats and their acolytes get out of jail free. This applies to thieves, shoplifters, rapists, murderers, Joe and Hunter Biden, and all the liberal losers who are sucking the life out of our once wonderful country.
The Democrats will stop at nothing to stay in power. It is not so much that they want to retain power, but thousands will lose their cushy jobs and some will go to jail. When the reckoning comes, it will be painful and the Democrats are going to do whatever it takes to hold on to their regime. When I say, "Whatever it takes," it will go far beyond what common decency and respect for life imply.
Let's hope the Supreme Court gets it right and stops the foolishness with the ballots before it gets completely crazy.
