“People speak sometimes about the "bestial" cruelty of man, but that is terribly unjust and offensive to beasts, no animal could ever be so cruel as a man, so artfully, so artistically cruel.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The attack by Hamas on October 7th was just the beginning of their brutal killing spree. We have seen killing and torture throughout the ages, but this was right up there at the top of the list. In another blog, I commented on the drugged-up terrorists who were like the zombies we see in video games. This horrific event was real, and here are some of the stories from that terrible day:
The mother of Shani Louk, a 23-year-old Israeli-German woman whose body was paraded by Hamas militants after their attack on October 7, confirmed her daughter was dead but said, "at least she didn't suffer."
Israel's Foreign Ministry announced that Louk was confirmed dead in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday.
Louk had been attending the Nova music festival near the Gaza border when Hamas militants launched their terror attack. Hundreds of people were killed, and dozens more were taken hostage in the assault, Israeli authorities said.
Video footage circulating online after the attack showed a woman stripped to her underwear and face-down on the bed of a pick-up truck, her legs twisted while a Hamas soldier grabbed her hair and others spit on her.
Louk's family identified the woman in the video as Shani based on her tattoos and dreadlocks, the Washington Post reported. Soon after the video was released, Louk's mother, Ricarda said she thought her daughter was unconscious but alive, citing sources from Palestine, BBC News reported.
But, Ricarda Louk told German TV outlet RTL/ntv on Monday that she now believes her daughter has been dead since the attack.
Louk told the outlet that the Israeli military found a fragment of her daughter's skull, indicating she had been shot in the head and killed on October 7th. The rest of her body hasn't been found yet.
Israeli authorities condemned Louk's death and the militants responsible.
"These barbaric, sadistic animals simply chopped off her head as they attacked, tortured, and killed Israelis," Israeli President Isaac Herzog said in an interview with German outlet Bild, according to a Reuters translation. 1
His Arm ‘Was Blown Off’: Mother of American Believed to be Held Hostage by Hamas Reveals Son’s Final Text Message
Rachel Golberg, the mother of a missing 23-year-old American, recalled her last interaction
with her son before he was “driven away by Hamas” terrorists on Saturday after they attacked a desert concert in Israel. Hundreds of young concertgoers were slaughtered by the Palestinian gunmen at the concert, where women were also raped, and many of the attendees were kidnapped.
Golberg spoke during a press conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday and recalled both the last message she received from her son, Hersh Golberg-Polin, and the horrifying details of his last moments before Hamas took him, prisoner.
“There were two texts in a row from Hersh at 8:11. The first one said, ‘I love you.’… also, it said, ‘I’m sorry.’ And so I knew immediately, wherever he was, it was a terrible situation,” Golberg said. “I took it to mean I love you, and I’m sorry because whatever is going to happen is going to cause you tremendous pain and worry,” she said, adding:
Since that time, I, of course, tried calling him right back. There was no answer. I texted him a couple of times. Are you okay? I’ve not heard from him since the text I received at 8:11 on Saturday morning.
Goldberg then explained that witnesses told her about her son’s struggle with the Palestinian gunmen, who she was told blew off his arm as he hid in a bomb shelter.
“We’ve spoken to eyewitnesses. We know that he was injured in a gun battle. I mean, they were all civilians at a music festival, and they were fish in a barrel sitting in this bomb shelter. Terrorists came to the door. They were throwing grenades and shooting machine guns. And we know that Hirsch’s arm from the elbow down was severed, was blown off, and that he tied a tourniquet around with his shirt,” she said.
“Hamas came in after the gunfire settled down and said anyone who can walk, stand up and walk out,” Golberg continued, adding:
We are told that he was completely calm. I think he was
probably in shock. And he got up, and he walked out with five other people, young people from the music festival, two young women, three other young men. They were put on a pickup truck and driven away by Hamas. Then the police told us one thing they knew is that the last known cell signal from his phone was on the border with Gaza.
As of Tuesday, the death toll from Hamas’s devastating attack on the south of Israel stood at over 1,000 – primarily civilians who were gunned down in their homes and young concertgoers who were slaughtered en mass at a desert rave.
